I remember the day quite vividly. I knew that it was coming, but I still wasn't very prepared for it at all. I remember how we brought her inside because she was getting older and couldn't get around well anymore... we figured she had a stroke and with the hot, humid south Texas weather she may do better indoors.
I remember rushing to check on her in the morning... the night before she had become more unresponsive to all of us and wasn't really drinking or eating anything. Things weren't any better by morning; in fact they were much worse and were completely hopeless and we knew we only had one option at this point.
My dog Midnight was born the same year as me... I grew up with her. She was more than just my dog, she was a member of our family. The summer that I was getting ready to turn 16, was the summer that we had to put her to sleep. The morning that it became evident that we had to take her to the vet and say goodbye was a HORRIBLE morning. The drive to the animal hospital was the most excruciating emotional pain I had felt since the death of my Grandpa. I remember how difficult it was to carry her out to the bed of the truck, as it's difficult to carry dead weight. I remember riding in the back of the truck with her, holding her, petting her, and crying my eyes out. And I remember how touched I was that my Dad took time to make her a wooden coffin, complete with metal handles, for us to bury her out on my aunt and uncle's property in Cibolo.
All of this came rushing back to me today as I took Max for what I thought would be a completely routine visit to the vet. But not 2 minutes after my arrival I heard the horrid sobs of 2 young children from in the back... and then witnessed the vet and his tech carrying a golden lab on a gurney out to a car. These poor, sweet children, then came out to exit the hospital, and stopped to pet Max. The little boy looked up at me with tears streaming down his face and more readily welling up in his eyes and choked out the words, "We just had to let our dog go to sleep for good." I told him that I knew how he felt because I had once had to let my dog go after she had lived a long, happy life. And then I added that someday their family will find another dog that needs their love when they're ready to have a new family member.
After all of this, Max was traumatized during his examination to the point of pooping on the vet table. It was a traumatic day for both of us.
A blog about the various happenings in my life at the moment... good or bad... this is a place for me to lay it all out on the table...

HAPPY EASTER!
Just wanted to send a HAPPY EASTER out to everyone that happens by my blog. I hope that you have a good day... and if you're in my neck of the woods, I hope it doesn't get too rainy... (incidentally, when I was little I was convinced that the sun had to shine on Sundays... because sun was in the name of the day for a reason... R D RR!)

Pirates, Pirates, EVERYWHERE!!!
Well, I haven't updated, but I've been keeping busy... Starting with Dustin's 3rd birthday party (A pirate party!) this past Sunday! It was a nice day for a party in the park and Dustin had a LOT of fun!

Dustin sitting by his cakes, not smiling ;)

Sneaking icing from the cake!

Dustin's Crew!

Cap't. Dustin holding us all hostage!

The outcome of a 3 year old's birthday bash :)
I spent Monday recovering, Tuesday mending a migraine, and Wednesday picking up Dustin from daycare and going to the playground in his neighborhood. Thursday and Friday I subbed all day at the intermediate school... That was fun... subbing right before Spring Break! ;) I'm ready to enjoy the week off, and hope to head over to Canyon Lake for lunch one day... :-D It's been ages since I've been out there, and I am looking forward to enjoying the scenery for a while... Next up for me? Getting through April and making it to May when I am going to Port Aransas for a week! (A more serious post not related to everyday happenings will occur sometime this weekend...)
The diet's going well... I've lost 18 pounds so far... not bad for a little over 2 months... :)

Time Machine
Do you ever wish you had a time machine that you could go backwards or forward in time to alter situations? If you could go backwards or forward in time... what would it be for?
If I could do either, I think I would go backwards in time... I would change the way I do a lot of things... I'd like to go back to the moment when I thought that simply because I'm SO much like my dad and stubborn as all heck that it gives me a right to be disrespectful. To the point that I'm also disrespectful to my mother because I get frustrated trying to explain things to her (just like my Dad) and end up saying rude things that I shouldn't. I think that's the biggest thing I'd change... and trust me it's something I work hard to change everyday... although, having to move back home due to financial problems is the biggest reason for this now! I don't know that there's much else I'd change... I think that so far the things that have occurred in my life are for a reason... I may not yet know the reason for all of the things that haven't gone my way.... but eventually all will be revealed as to why events unfolded the way they did... I suppose that's why even though I long to have my own classroom and not be subbing anymore... I still have a sense of calm about it... because I know that it happened for a reason. Look what it lead to.... my certifying in another area... my picking up LOTS of awesome ideas for organization, rules/consequences, etc. for my first classroom which will surely make my first year more successful... my meeting and networking with many wonderful educators... which is now making it MUCH easier for me to get a foot in the door at the kind of school I want to work in.
So dear readers... What would you do with a time machine???
