Emotional Rollercoaster

Man... I have seriously realized I am emotionally spent for the week... I realized on Monday... which is sad in and of itself! One of the students I work with wasn't at school Monday... we later learned it was because his foster mom had had a massive stroke Friday. She's in ICU and unresponsive, and they don't think she'll make it. Fortunately when he returned yesterday, he seemed to be in good spirits and has been fine. My student, however, has worn the same pants 4 of the last 5 days of school. Undies change, pants do not... they're dirty... and starting to smell. I've been documenting this all, and need to speak with the social worker ASAP regarding all of this.

And on top of it all I've been pretty tired still... I'm not 100% over the "sinus infection" which I now believe to be viral... because I've been on antibiotics all this time (I have one pill left), and I'm STILL not feeling great... my vocal chords have been put through the ringer... my voice is still hoarse (I don't sound normal) and I don't quite know what to do... I can't rest it in my job. I'm hoping that the 3 day weekend will provide an opportunity to rest it well.

All these things have brought me down... I'm constantly trying to stay positive and optimistic through it all... but I'm just having a difficult time of it lately. Hopefully some time with the gals this weekend will cheer me up. JBear and I plan on a dinner/movie night... and Daughn and I will squeeze some QT in somewhere... I miss her dearly... we've barely seen each other in the past 3 months... just too much going on!

Blah!

Back to the daily grind. I didn't go to work yesterday due to a stomach bug... and largely due to having a fever... I would have just been sent home anyway... this way I saved on gas money.

I'm back today... I'm feeling good right now... I'm just hoping I stay this way til at least 3:15... then I can come home and nap if I need to before I go pick up Jamey at 6 tonight.

I really don't feel like going in to work... I'm REALLY worn out... but I must... and I really couldn't possibly stand another day at home bored with resting... I NEED to be moving and busy!

Today my Dad will probably become CEO of the company he works for. Tonight I will pick up Jamey and we'll eat some dinner and watch P.S. I Love You (because, she's never seen it... which is hard to believe). Then I will drive her back home, and then come home to CRASH OUT! All this early to bed, early to rise with giving the cat her meds is driving me nuts... I'll be soooo glad after tonight, it's the last time I have to give her any meds (it's a sticky liquid... that I have to gag her with from a syringe... she hates it, and SO DO I! Largely because I miss my extra 20 minutes of sleep in the morning! haha)

Surviving the Swine Flu!

Well, it's been an interesting weekend. For any that have been living in a cave, then let it be known that there's a Swine Flu epidemic starting up...! The only 2 confirmed cases (as of this morning) in Texas were in a neighboring school district to the one I work in (when I say neighboring, I really mean overlapping/intertwined). There are about 15 more cases in the area that are being looked at and tested for Swine Flu. The Schertz-Cibolo-Univ. City school district initially only planned to shut down their high school for the week, but came back on Sunday and said they were shutting down schools/facilities district wide for the week so that buses, and campuses, can be cleaned thoroughly.

Now all those schools have a week of standardized TAKs testing to make up... but apparently TEA has dismissed them from making up the week of missed school. So, our question in my school district is why is our district not taking the same precautions? Kind of crazy... especially since we found out today that the HEB down the road has been closed for the week due to Swine Flu.... now I'm not a genius in the realm of medical issues... but I'm pretty sure shutting down an entire business due to a flu epidemic is a red flag that shouldn't be ignored! Not to mention, we had a whole BUNCH of kiddos absent today because their families aren't comfortable sending them to school right now... I wonder how many testing kiddos will be out... it'll be difficult to get them to come take the test, and that counts against us... seems like it would've been easier to avoid that problem (since so much emphasis is placed on this TAKs test) by rescheduling testing, and having students stay home this week. Ah well... I wonder if we'll all be alerted to stay home this week eventually... I think it's just a matter of time.

Welp! I tried!

I tried to go to work today... I woke myself up... dragged myself out of bed... and took a shower. Made breakfast and got things ready for the day... then dragged myself to the school.

When I woke up this morning, my throat felt awful... and I had about half a voice. I knew this wasn't good... when this has happened before, it usually means I have strep throat. ICK! So, after people saw me this morning, they promptly asked me to leave because they didn't want to get sick as well. I went to the Med Clinic, took me about 1-1/2 hours... not too bad. Turns out I have a sinus infection... additionally I have a strand of strep throat... not the contagious one (thank goodness, I'd miss work for 2 more days if that were the case!)... the Dr. told me I really should've come in last week (oops!) and to not wait so long in the future because it could travel into my lungs and I can get Bronchitis... and additionally from that I could get Pneumonia (I don't want either, so I've learned my lesson!) SO... after $50 for the "urgent care" and another $90 for Rx... (yeah... an antibiotic and 2 different nasal sprays along with some mucinex)... POKE A FORK IN ME, I'M DONE! Even though I don't like having to shell out all that money (and it would have been MUCH MORE without medical insurance), it would be worse if I let myself get sicker than just a sinus infection.

I came home, had some soup, and dozed off after taking my butt loads of medicine. Incidentally, I'm feeling better already. My voice is even coming back... although, I don't know what the morning will hold for me as far as that's concerned. But now I entirely plan on laying on the couch and taking it easy... and hopefully tomorrow won't be as terrible a day as today surely would have been if I had chosen to "tough it out."

I hope no one else is this sick, although I know it's been going around with the crazy allergies and the weather here in TX as of late (all these freezing mornings, and warm, sunny afternoons are KILLING my knee... and apparently my sinuses!)

Horrid day

I had a bad day dealing with allergies!!! My sinuses are all stopped up... and then they started draining out... this leads to a rather annoying sore throat. :( None of the meds I've taken have succeeded in anything other than making me very tired and drowsy.

To top it off, today was a day I had planned on cleaning the bathroom and other parts of the house before Rob and them get in from Spring on Weds night. So, there I was this evening cleaning the bathroom... as I couldn't really breathe... or swallow without pain... but at least it's done... and all I have left to do tomorrow is make sure all my Halloween decor is packed away... and to clean over my room one more time. Then I have like 3-4 loads of laundry to get done before next week... because I'd really like to keep the weekend to spend with the family.

I hope I wake up feeling better tomorrow!
