It's over... It's over... It's over...

As Lisa Loeb would say in her song. The school year is officially over. Because I'm still waiting to hear back if I have a job next year, I had to move ALL my school stuff out of the classroom and back home. It's occupying the garage right now, I'm just glad I have great and fantastic women on my team who helped me load the last bit of it Saturday morning. :) I will REALLY miss them if I don't get to come back to my campus and get placed somewhere else in the district.

In other news, I really intended to post on Friday night, but Friday turned out to be a terrible day. My dog (Dioji; pronounced D-O-G)
had to be put to sleep. She had been under the weather for about a week. The doctor suspected something with her spleen or liver and was going to do an ultrasound Monday morning to get a better idea of what was going on. He scheduled that on Weds morning. By Friday afternoon, she was having seizures and my mom had to get her in pronto. They made the decision that the best thing for her would be to not prolong her life for her to suffer. They were pretty sure she was starting to bleed internally, and there really was little that could be done to help her for more than a month at most.

It's never easy losing a pet. Especially a pet that is 15 years old and you've had since they were a pup. Anyhow, we just love our vet so much. They told us to go on our vacation, clear our minds, and when we return to give them a call and they will have her ready. We arranged for her to be cremated. So, we will have her back with us when we retur
n. I miss her very much, but I know she's in a better place and waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. :)
RIP Dioji, the family misses you terribly!

Being up late inspires me, I guess

It inspires me to actually keep up with my blog. And to blog about how I have no earthly idea how exactly I'm going to get back on schedule with my sleeping patterns. As of late, I have been up til about 2-4am and waking up anywhere between 7:30-noon. Yeah, you read that right... NOON. And sometimes when I have those days in which I wake up at 7:30, I go back to sleep til at least 10am. :)

This will not be very easy to break in a couple weeks. Really I need to break it TOMORROW, because I technically should try to get up to the school and move stuff from one room to the other. But when I spoke to the Head Custodian last week, he said he'd still be working in our hallway this week. So I'm going off that... maybe I'll go on Friday afternoon for a bit and move as much as I can. Then next week I can go up day by day and move things a little at a time, and then FINALLY start organizing and decorating. I've been working on things at home in the meantime. I need to go to Walmart tomorrow. Again. I need pencil pouches for 3 ring binders. :)

Let's talk about how I was super bored tonight because I lacked the entertainment of my texting buddy. :( It was quite sad. He's away on business right now, but he also was not feeling well this evening... and so I told him to go to bed and quit attempting to have a conversation with me when he clearly did not feel well. Bless him for trying, though. I also may have underestimated the way things are going between us. Yes, I'm speaking of the match I made on web dating. The one that I really and truly thought was not really very interested in me as more than a friend. However, when I was talking to him last night whilst we were watching 27 Dresses (it was on FX) they had a commercial for the site which matched us, and he said something about, "yay for being a percentage statistic and building a lasting relationship!" Hmmm... something to ponder. Maybe he's just being very thorough. Which I kinda knew from the get-go. And maybe the incident which occurred before made him realize that it's better to trust what's already going on rather than being 'linked' to someone by a friend. Sometimes those websites actually know what they're doing. I don't know. It all doesn't really matter anyway because I have prayed about all this, and I've placed it in God's hands. I know that He has a plan for me, and that things will happen as they should... when it's the right season for it. :) I honestly have a lot on my plate right now... so it's probably good that it's moving semi-slow. But again, we'll see in time what is in store for me.

Lastly... I think I'm off to bed... it's almost 1... it's time to start attempting sleep!

I'm smarter than I thought...

I figured out how to sew something using my mom's ancient sewing machine! :) HOORAY! I made a little curtain for the window on my classroom door. When we have lockdown drills or a lockdown, we have to cover that window so you can't see into the room. :) I made a little curtain that can be rolled up and tied in that position until it's needed (like this but for a smaller window and with cuter fabric). I also bought fabric for all my bulletin boards (fun, bright, solid colors!) and I plan on making curtains out of the left over polka dot fabric. :)

I'm VERY excited for the upcoming school year! Now for some relaxation this evening... tomorrow I'll be going to the water park in the afternoon... can't wait.

Summer is in full swing!

Well, it's summer now! I'm enjoying my vacation... although I may be going to the school tomorrow morn to move some things from my newly acquired room, to the OTHER new room I've acquired. lol Yes, that's right... I'm being moved again. But I'm fairly certain I'll have a window in this room, so I'm okay with the move! lol

Last week I went to Port Aransas, TX with my family for a family vacation. We were there 7 days and it was FANTABULOUS! :) Just not long enough. However, I'm glad to be back home... and even though I have like 4 loads of laundry to do, I'm glad I can relax at home. This morning I went to the grocery store not really intending to grab a lot of stuff, but I ended up buying a lot of "summer food" such as frozen pizza, taquitos, and other scrumptious items. I've been sleeping in til at least 8:30 every day (which is GREAT) and I'm looking forward to hitting up Splashtown and Fiesta Texas a lot this summer. I am determined to not be as pale-legged as in the past after this summer passes! haha

Things this month I'm looking forward to: Moving AGAIN! Making curtains for my classroom to cover various areas in there (shelves and such), making book cases with my dad for in my classroom, painting/decorating those book cases, possibly making some storage things for the kids in my class, going to the teacher stores and buying some pocket charts and stuff for the class!

Treading Water

I feel as if I'm just treading water until the last day at this point. We have 13-1/2 days left, and a LOT of things to turn in and trainings to take and all sorts of things going on. I found out on Friday that I may be moving to 3rd grade for next year. Not set in stone yet, but the possibility is there. And thus I've decided that I need to spend some time in the classroom next weekend cleaning and packing for potential moving. I needed to clean and pack for storing anyway... but if there's any possibility I may have to move stuff to a different classroom, I want to be ready! We'll have a half day work day on the 4th, and then the 5th (yes, a SATURDAY) is our mandatory work day... that's when I have to FINISH cleaning/packing/storing. And then the 6th, my family and I will be leaving for Port Aransas for a week. :) So, as tired as I'll be on Saturday, I get to come home and pack my bags for vacay.

Doesn't look like I will be taking a personal day from here on out. Just no time to do that! Everything's fast paced from here on out. This week we'll be studying for their CBA tests, and then Friday is Field Day. Next week, they have CBA's and they'll have their taste testing for the class cookbook project we're working on. That's a little every day, and presentations involved. Then the following week we have Monday off for Memorial Day, and then we have just 3 and a half days that week... which will be taken up doing cleaning, and having some fun. I'm pretty sure this Friday we're having the kids watch Finding Nemo. We have the TEKS for showing it, and we can justify showing it to wrap up our habitats/life cycles/adaptations units in science that we've covered the past 12 weeks. :) SOOOO ready for school to be over! I'm ever thankful that I have a job now... and I LOVE it... even with all the struggles and challenges... but I am SO READY for a break! Kinda bummed I may not be working with the same team next year, though... but maybe I won't be moving after all... just have to wait and see!

BUSY BUSY BUSY

Well, I haven't posted much lately because a lot has been going on. Ricky came in from L.A. to visit for basically the month of June... during that time our good friend Long (who lives in the Dallas area) came down to SA to visit us... I haven't seen either of these boys in about 1-1/2 year!!! :( I was sooooo glad to see them! We spent a day in Austin while Long was here... hitting up our usual eating spots and spending a chunk of time in IKEA (actually in the Round Rock area) and we just had a great time! I can't wait until I see both of them again!

Ricky left July 2nd (which was incidentally the same day that I took my certification exam... still no word on results yet, btw) and I didn't really see much of him the few days before that bc I was studying. I did have a great visit with him... and I got to see Druck more, too... Summer is a time I can try to map out chunks of time here and there for people. When distance doesn't matter too much (I have a handful of friends that live on the other side of town... about an hour drive round-trip!)... time is precious during the school year, so when I don't have to worry about that, I make more time to see people. Although, I spend time with family a lot during the summer, too...

For example, we went up for the day to Spring to see Conner the Saturday after his birthday! He's SOOOO cute! This Saturday, we're leaving for our annual Port Aransas beach vacation with them... :) I'm very excited to see how much fun Conner has this year... he's 2 now and I imagine he'll have much more fun at the beach and pool than last year! And just in general, I'm glad we'll get to spend a few days with them...! Although, I have a sneaking suspicion that Conner will mainly only be interested in spending time with his PawPaw...! They're buddies... end of story.

Anyhow, today I had planned on running to Walmart to get a few things so that I can slowly start packing and all for the trip, but I just don't have the same motivation I had yesterday to get out and get things done...! Maybe in a little while, though!

School's Out For Summer!!!

Well, with the kids at least.  We have a work day tomorrow from 8-4 (complete with a potluck which I made a chocolate, chocolate cake for... because we all need some chocolate about this time of year!), but after that, I'm done... with the exception of interviewing, that is.  Yup, still no job... but I'm hoping that I'll hear something in the next couple weeks... although it could be as late as mid July... AND, if that all falls thru, supposedly my position is still intact for next school year... which means that at least I'll have some sort of income for next year.  But I'm entirely hoping I can get a full time position.

I had a really good (but emotional) last day with the kiddos.  I had a lot of kids asking if I'd still be at my campus next year, and I had to just tell them I wasn't sure yet where I'd be, but I'd try to come back and visit if I wasn't still at my school.  And I had a wonderfully bittersweet moment with my student.  He gave me a present, and it contained a VERY sweet letter from his parents all about how they truly appreciate everything I've done for/with him, and how he's made such great improvements in his behavior due to my being there for him... it made me cry.  He helped his mom make a bracelet for me... it has beads (he picked the pattern and colors) and has a puzzle charm... if you didn't know, the puzzle piece is the symbol for Autism Awareness.  It truly touched me, and I've worn my bracelet since I opened it!  They also got me a gift card to Starbucks.  After I opened everything, and had a good cry from the note, he gave me a big hug... and then he started getting a little choked up and said, "I'll never ever ever forget you as long as I live Ms. Prewitt!"  It was a wonderful moment, and I felt like all the difficult times we may have had this year all made a difference!

SO on a less sappy note... I'll be at the waterpark again this weekend... and I can honestly say I'm seriously glad we got season passes to the waterpark this summer!  It'll be nice to just go in the wave pool or lazy river over and over again all summer long (if you've ever been in Texas during the summer, you'll understand why this is so nice)...!
